Description

The HIMA F 6705 is a 2-fold digital/analog converter designed for safety-related signal conversion in source or sink mode. The module operates within safety-instrumented systems up to Requirement Class AK 1 ... 6 and receives data via the internal VO bus. The F 6705 provides two individually galvanically isolated analog outputs capable of delivering 0/4 ... 20 mA current signals with integrated safety shutdown isolation. During continuous operation, automated internal testing routines continuously verify the linearity of the onboard 12-bit D/A converter, cross-talk between individual output channels, and safety shutdown capabilities.

Features

  • Two individually galvanically isolated analog output channels with safety isolation
  • Configurable operation for either source mode or sink mode per channel
  • Continuous automated testing of D/A converter linearity, channel cross-talk, and safety shutdown
  • Support for parallel redundant output configurations and bipolar current mode (-20 mA to +20 mA)
  • Integrated safety shutdown mechanism for fail-safe system operation

Applications

  • Safety-instrumented systems (SIS) requiring Requirement Class AK 1 ... 6 compliance
  • Fail-safe process control loops using 0/4 ... 20 mA analog outputs
  • Redundant and bipolar current output control configurations

Installation Guidelines

  • Unused Channels: Connect a jumper between terminals b6 and b8 for Channel 1, or between b22 and b24 for Channel 2, to avoid module error messages.
  • Shielding: Connect the 6.3 x 0.8 mm flat pin plug of the cable screen directly to the earth bar located beneath the module slot.
  • Redundant Operation: Paralleled channels must operate in the same mode (source or sink). Total burden resistance must be halved, and current generation should be balanced across both channels to minimize thermal drift.
  • Bipolar Operation: When generating -20 mA to +20 mA outputs using two modules, configure Module 1 for positive current and Module 2 for negative current. Control logic must ensure only one module outputs current at a given time.

FAQ

How must unused analog channels be wired on the module to prevent diagnostic error indications?

Unused channels require termination jumpers between terminal b6 and b8 for channel 1, or terminals b22 and b24 for channel 2. This jumper prevents internal diagnostics from flagging open-circuit fault conditions.

What source voltage and maximum load resistance are supported when operating channels in sink mode?

The module requires a source voltage between 10 and 30 V DC. Maximum burden resistance in sink mode is calculated using the formula (UQ - 10 V) divided by 21.2 mA, incorporating external line resistance.

What internal automatic test routines are conducted on the converter module during continuous system operation?

The module automatically performs continuous self-testing during operation. Primary test routines verify the linearity of the 12-bit D/A converter, monitor cross-talk between output channels, and check the functionality of the integrated safety shutdown circuit.
