Description

The GE Fanuc IC693CMM311 is a communications coprocessor module designed for Series 90-30 PLC systems to provide expanded serial communication capabilities. It equips compatible controllers with GE Fanuc CCM protocol, Modbus RTU slave protocol, and Series Ninety Protocol (SNP/SNP-X) connectivity. The module features two built-in 25-pin D-shell female serial interfaces, designated as Port 1 and Port 2. Port 1 supports RS-232 electrical standards, while Port 2 supports RS-232, RS-422, and RS-485 standards. The module operates on the CPU baseplate bus using a 5 VDC voltage source and includes a push-to-restart communication button to re-initiate serial interfaces without power cycling.

Features

  • Integrates two 25-pin D-shell female serial communication ports on a single module.
  • Port 1 supports RS-232 applications; Port 2 supports RS-232, RS-422, and RS-485 applications.
  • Supports GE Fanuc CCM, Modbus RTU slave, SNP, and SNP-X protocol combinations across both ports.
  • Features status LED indicators for MODULE OK, PORT 1, and PORT 2 operational monitoring.
  • Includes an onboard hardware push button to re-initiate communication links.
  • Occupies a single slot on the Series 90-30 CPU baseplate.

Applications

  • Industrial serial protocol conversion and data acquisition.
  • Integration of Modbus RTU slave field devices into Series 90-30 PLC architectures.
  • Multi-drop serial communications over RS-485 network topology.
  • Direct point-to-point RS-232 computer or HMI interfacing.

Connections/Interfaces

Connector Pin Function
25-pin D-shell Female Single physical connector housing interface signal connections for both Port 1 and Port 2
IC693CBL305 Cable Assembly Wye cable used to split single 25-pin connector into separate Port 1 and Port 2 cabling links

Installation Guidelines

  • Mounting Location: Mount the module exclusively into a CPU baseplate of a Series 90-30 PLC system. Installation into expansion baseplates or embedded CPU systems is strictly prohibited.
  • Slot Allocation: Insert the single-slot module into any available option slot within the CPU baseplate, excluding the reserved CPU slot itself.
  • Cable Connections: Utilize the pre-assembled IC693CBL305 Wye connection cable to split the physical 25-pin D-shell interface into individual wiring runs for Port 1 and Port 2.
  • Power Restrictions: Ensure backplane power budget accommodates the 400 mA current draw at +5VDC prior to system startup.

FAQ

Can the module be installed in a Series 90-30 expansion baseplate?

The module installs exclusively in the primary CPU baseplate and is not supported in expansion or remote baseplates.

Which Series 90-30 CPUs support the communications coprocessor module?

The device works with modular CPUs such as model 331 and higher, but cannot be used with embedded CPU models 311, 313, or 323.

How are the serial interface ports physically accessed on the module faceplate?

Both serial ports connect through a single 25-pin female D-shell interface, requiring an IC693CBL305 Wye cable to separate Port 1 and Port 2 links.

What is the maximum number of modules allowed in one baseplate?

Up to four communication coprocessor modules can be mounted simultaneously in a single CPU baseplate on compatible CPU models.
